Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child need to be to apply for OSDC
Classes are: infants (3 - 15 months), toddlers (12 - 24 months), stompers (2 - 3 years), and preschoolers (2.9 years - 5 years). Children must be within noted age category by September, as OSCDC is a 12-month contracted program beginning in September and running through August.

Am I expected to “teach” the children and plan curriculum during my parent help shift?
No, that is the responsibility of the teacher in the room. Your role as parent helper is to help assist the teacher for that day, in whatever capacity he/she may need you for (i.e., cutting fruit for snack, reading a story, helping rub children’s backs at nap, or just play and be silly!)

What if can’t fulfill my parent help shift in the classroom?
The Center provides a list of qualified substitutes and their contact information. This is re-distributed each month in the case of any changes. It is your responsibility to call, hire, and pay for a substitute (ask Director for payment fee). The other option is to call another parent in your room to see if he/she can switch shifts with you. This way, the Center is getting the parent help and there is no additional cost for you.

What if I want only 3 or 4 days per week?
Some of our parents work a 4-day work week and have their child here for those days only. This is completely acceptable to us. Your tuition payment would remain the same. We encourage parents to speak with their child’s teacher(s) to work out a plan together for consistency purposes.

What if I want to pick up early or drop off late?
Generally, we like all children to arrive on time. However, there are some instances where this is acceptable. Again, we encourage parents to speak with their child’s teacher(s) to work out an arrangement that is in the best interest of the child and classroom (i.e., you wouldn’t want to come to pick up your child early only to find out that his/her class is on a nature walk and then you have to wait until they return).

What happens if I go on vacation for a month or more at a time? Am I required to still pay tuition?
Yes, you are still required to pay tuition, as well as fulfill your parent help duties. As a not-for-profit center, we rely on monthly tuition payments to cover paying staff salaries and other operating expenses.

What information do I need to fill out the Child and Dependent Care Expenses form on my tax return (Form 2441 or 1040A Schedule 2)?
